The Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Foundations Associate certification is Oracle’s entry-level OCI credential, and it is free: Oracle states that every Foundations-level course and certification stays free, including the exam attempt. The current exam is listed as 1Z0-1085-26. The certification is valid for 24 months, and since the 2026 release Oracle no longer puts a year in the title.

What is the Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Foundations Associate certification?
The Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Foundations Associate is the entry point into Oracle’s OCI certification path. It shows that you understand what OCI is and how its core services fit together — identity, networking, compute, storage, security and cost — without asking you to design or operate production systems.
Oracle’s official preparation is the Become an OCI Foundations Associate learning path on Oracle MyLearn. It covers the basics of OCI and its distributed cloud model, compartments and identity, VCN networking and load balancers, compute instances and scaling, Oracle Kubernetes Engine and Oracle Functions, storage options, security tools such as Cloud Guard and Vault, and cost management.
Oracle does not name a target audience on the learning path. It asks only for a basic understanding of cloud computing concepts, which makes the credential reachable for anyone starting out on OCI.

Is the OCI Foundations certification free?
Yes. In its August 2026 announcement of the 2026 OCI learning paths and exams, Oracle University states that Foundations courses remain available at no cost and that every Foundations-level course and certification stays free, just as before.
Oracle’s 2025 cost overview named the Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Foundations Associate as one of three completely free OCI certifications, with the learning path, skill checks, practice exams and the test attempt all included. At that time Oracle also said you could schedule as many attempts as you need for these Foundations certifications.
The rest of the 2026 lineup is mixed. Oracle says the OCI Architect Associate course and certification are now free too, while Professional-level courses move to paid access.

OCI Foundations Associate exam: 1Z0-1085-26
Oracle University lists the current exam for this certification as 1Z0-1085-26, under the title Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Foundations Associate. The “-26” suffix marks the exam version; the certification name itself no longer carries a year, because Oracle dropped the calendar year from certification titles and logos with the 2026 release.
The exam page holds the number of questions, the time limit and the passing score. That page loads dynamically and could not be retrieved for verification on 10 October 2026, so this page does not repeat figures for those three points. OCI Foundations prerequisites
There are no formal prerequisites for the OCI Foundations Associate certification. Oracle’s learning path asks only for a basic understanding of cloud computing concepts — what a region, a virtual machine or object storage is in general terms.
If you have never used a cloud console, it is worth creating an account and clicking through the services the learning path covers. Seeing how compartments, VCNs and instances relate in the console makes the identity and networking questions far easier to reason about.

How long is the OCI Foundations Associate certification valid?
Oracle’s certification guidelines state that Oracle Cloud Infrastructure certifications are valid for 24 months from the date the credential is earned, and Oracle repeats this in the 2026 update. Oracle also says it keeps refreshing course content and exam objectives, while the credential name now stays the same.
In practice that means a Foundations credential earned now lapses after two years unless you certify again on the current version. Because the exam is free, recertifying costs time rather than money.

OCI Foundations practice exam and study materials
The official study route is Oracle’s own: the free Become an OCI Foundations Associate learning path on Oracle MyLearn. Oracle’s cost overview lists skill checks and practice exams as part of the free Foundations package, so there is no need to pay for preparation to reach this level.
Oracle’s guidelines also tell candidates to check their study materials against MyLearn and to avoid exam dump websites and offers — a useful rule of thumb when you find unofficial question sets.

OCI Foundations exam dumps
Oracle treats brain dumps as fraud. Its Certification Program guidelines say that contributing to, using or sharing materials pertaining to Oracle certification exams in that way violates the Fraudulent Activity Policy, and that disclosing or sharing the content of any Oracle certification exam is strictly prohibited.
The sanctions listed include certification revocation, future exam bans and forfeiture of exam results. For a free certification with a free official learning path, there is no reason to take that risk.

OCI Foundations vs OCI Architect Associate
The Foundations Associate checks that you know what the core OCI services are and how they relate. The OCI Architect Associate is the Associate-level certification on the core OCI path, which Oracle lists among the core OCI items in its 2026 release. In that release Oracle made the Architect Associate course and certification free as well, so moving up no longer adds an exam fee.
Taking the free Foundations exam first is a low-stakes way to learn OCI’s vocabulary and Oracle’s exam experience before a deeper certification. Check the Architect Associate exam page for its own requirements before you book.
