Oracle encourages learners to move to the Become a MySQL Database Administration Professional learning path as the replacement. Oracle’s notice does not name a successor exam number, so this page does not guess one.

What this means in practice: if you are close to ready, book 1Z0-908 now and leave yourself room for a retake before the cut-off. If you are starting from zero, look at the replacement learning path first, because a study plan that runs past mid-November will end in front of an exam you can no longer book.

What is the MySQL 8.0 Database Administrator certification?

The credential is Oracle Certified Professional, MySQL 8.0 Database Administrator. According to Oracle’s badge criteria, you earn it by passing a single exam, 1Z0-908.

Oracle describes holders as having proven the skills to administer, back up and replicate MySQL, and the badge lists skills such as database administration, database backup, database security, performance, InnoDB, the Performance Schema, the SYS schema and replication. In short, it is the operations-side MySQL cert: running servers, not writing applications against them.

MySQL 8.0 Database Administrator exam: cost, questions and passing score

We could not verify the exam price, the number of questions, the duration or the passing score on 10 October 2026: Oracle’s official 1Z0-908 exam page did not load for checking, and none of the other Oracle sources we checked state these figures. Rather than repeat numbers from unofficial sites, this page leaves them out. Confirm them on Oracle’s exam page when you register.

What Oracle does state in its certification programme guidelines applies here too. The test vendor is Pearson VUE. The passing score for each exam version is set independently to keep a consistent scoring standard across versions, so a figure for one version does not automatically apply to another. After the exam, Oracle provides a score report with an overall performance summary and a final total score, but for exam security it does not tell you which questions you missed. A passed exam cannot be retaken.

The official training is Oracle University’s learning path Become a MySQL 8.0 Database Admin Professional, built around the course MySQL 8.0 for Database Administrators. Remember the date: Oracle archives this learning path on 15 November 2026.

MySQL’s own training page describes the MySQL Learning Subscription as including integrated certification, with one attempt at each exam in the subscription plus digital badging. Whether that still covers 1Z0-908 this close to retirement is something to confirm with Oracle before you buy.

Oracle ran a promotion with free MySQL training and free certification exams from 20 April to 31 July 2025, which included 1Z0-908. That offer has ended.

How to study for the 1Z0-908 exam

Start with the six course objectives above and turn each into a lab task on your own MySQL 8.0 instance: install and configure a server, create and lock down user accounts, take and restore a backup, set up replication between two instances, and work through a slow server using the Performance Schema and the SYS schema.

Then close the gaps. Oracle’s learning path includes an official Practice Exam for 1Z0-908, available to subscribers. Use it near the end, as a check, not as your main study material.

Given the retirement date, plan backwards from 16 November 2026: pick your exam date first, and leave enough time for a second attempt in case the first one fails.

Oracle does not publish a general pass rate for 1Z0-908. It did publish results for its 2025 free training and certification promotion: for MySQL 8.0 Database Administrator Professional (1Z0-908), Oracle reported 4,694 pass and 2,134 fail outcomes, 6,836 in total.

Read those numbers with Oracle’s own caveat: they count pass, fail and revoke events during that promotion, and they are not necessarily unique individuals. They describe a free-exam campaign, not the typical paid candidate, so they say little about your own odds.

Oracle runs a separate MySQL 8.0 track for developers, exam 1Z0-909: MySQL 8.0 Database Developer. The administrator cert is about operating MySQL — installation, security, backup, replication and performance — while the developer exam, as its name says, belongs to the development side; check Oracle’s exam page for its exact scope.

If your job is keeping MySQL servers healthy and available, the administrator credential described on this page is the one that matches. The developer exam was not part of the retirement notice we checked, but confirm its status with Oracle before planning around it.
