Oracle MySQL developer certification: the 1Z0-909 exam

What is the Oracle MySQL developer certification?

Oracle’s developer credential for MySQL is the MySQL 8.0 Database Developer Oracle Certified Professional. The exam behind it is 1Z0-909, “MySQL 8.0 Database Developer”, which Oracle also calls the MySQL 8.0 Database Developer Professional exam.

It is a professional-level (OCP) cert for developers who build applications on MySQL rather than administer the server. Oracle’s administrator counterpart is the MySQL 8.0 Database Administrator, exam 1Z0-908.

MySQL’s own certification page also lists Database Developer as one of its certifications and sends you to Oracle University for the details.

Is the MySQL 8.0 developer exam still available?

As far as we could verify, yes. In a blog post dated April 8, 2026, Oracle lists 1Z0-909 among its MySQL certification exams, and Oracle MyLearn has a current exam page for it. We found no retirement notice for 1Z0-909.

Two caveats. Oracle’s exam detail pages did not load for us today, so we cannot rule out a notice on those pages; check the exam page when you register. And the free exam offer you may have heard about is over: Oracle ran free MySQL training and free certification exams from April 20 through July 31, 2025 for MySQL’s 30th anniversary.

What is on the 1Z0-909 exam?

Oracle’s learning path “Become a MySQL 8.0 Database Developer Professional” describes the scope as developing data-driven applications with MySQL 8.0. It names JSON document stores, connectors, error handling and spatial data, and improving the performance of your applications.

That tells you what kind of developer the exam has in mind: someone who works with MySQL from application code, not only someone who writes SQL in a console. Expect the document store side of MySQL 8.0 and the connectors between your code and the database to matter as much as classic SQL.

Oracle’s detailed exam topic list sits on the exam page, which did not load for us today. Use that list as the final checklist when you study.

How much does the Oracle MySQL developer exam cost?

Oracle does not state the 1Z0-909 price on the pages we could check. Its certification guidelines name Pearson VUE as the test vendor and say candidates need to check exam prices at pearsonvue.com/oracle, where the price is shown in the currencies Pearson VUE accepts.

The 2025 anniversary offer that made the exam free has ended, so plan for the regular price when you book.

MySQL 8.0 Database Developer exam format and passing score

We cannot give you the number of questions, the time limit or the passing score for 1Z0-909. Oracle publishes these on the exam page, which did not load for us today, and its machine-readable exam list does not include 1Z0-909. Figures quoted elsewhere may be correct, but we have not verified them against Oracle, so we leave them out.

What is verified: Oracle names Pearson VUE as its test vendor and directs you to Pearson VUE for the price.

How hard is the MySQL 8.0 developer exam?

Oracle does not publish a pass rate. It has, however, published the raw outcomes of its 2025 free exam window: for 1Z0-909, 911 passes and 751 fails, 1,666 outcomes in total.

Read those numbers with care. They come from a single promotion in which the exam was free, so they describe that window, not a general pass rate and not your own odds. What they do show is that fails were not rare: 751 of the 1,666 recorded outcomes.

MySQL developer study materials from Oracle

Oracle University offers the learning path “Become a MySQL 8.0 Database Developer Professional” as the main study route, covering the application development topics above.

For exam practice, Oracle has a course called “Prepare for MySQL 8.0 Database Developer Certification”, which works through questions written in the style of the exam, and a “Practice Exam - 1Z0-909”. The practice exam page requires a subscription.

Pair the official material with real code: a small application that uses a MySQL connector, stores and queries JSON documents, handles errors properly and stores spatial data covers more of the scope than reading alone.

MySQL 1Z0-909 dumps

Oracle is explicit about dumps. Its certification guidelines treat any contribution to, use of, or sharing of material pertaining to Oracle certification exams — “brain dumps” — as a violation, tell candidates to avoid exam dump websites and offers, and state that disclosing or sharing exam content is strictly prohibited.

Sanctions can include certification revocation, future exam bans and forfeiture of exam results.

Retakes and renewal

If you fail, Oracle’s guidelines let you schedule a retake from an earliest appointment date after the failed attempt; you cannot retake an exam you have passed.

On renewal, Oracle states only that certain Oracle Database credentials require periodic recertification to remain active. It does not say on the pages we checked whether that applies to the MySQL 8.0 developer certification, so check your credential in your Oracle certification account.
