What is the PMI-RMP certification?
PMI-RMP stands for PMI Risk Management Professional. It is issued by PMI, the Project Management Institute, and it is a specialist certification: where PMP covers project management as a whole, the PMI RMP certification focuses on identifying, analysing and responding to project risk.
It is not an entry-level credential. PMI asks for documented project risk management experience before you can sit the exam, and the five exam domains run from risk strategy and planning through to monitoring and closing risks.

PMI-RMP certification requirements
PMI lists three sets of PMI-RMP requirements; you need to meet one. The degree you hold decides how much experience and education is enough.
Each requirement on experience refers to project risk management experience within the last five years, not general project work. Each education requirement refers to hours of project risk management education. PMI’s handbook adds that self-directed learning — reading books, watching instructional videos, or sessions with coaches or mentors — does not count towards those hours.
- Secondary diploma: 3 years (36 months) of project risk management experience in the last 5 years + 40 hours of risk management education
- Bachelor’s degree or higher: 2 years (24 months) of experience in the last 5 years + 30 hours of education
- Bachelor’s degree or higher from a GAC-accredited programme: 1 year (12 months) of experience in the last 5 years + 30 hours of education

How much does the PMI-RMP exam cost?
PMI’s current PMI-RMP page shows no exam fee. It explains that you pay the exam fee once your application is accepted, and that is when you see the binding figure.
PMI’s PMI-RMP Handbook does contain a fee table, but that handbook was last updated in August 2020 and still describes an older exam format, so its figures are not repeated here as a current price. Check the amount in your application; that handbook distinguishes PMI member and non-member rates.

PMI-RMP exam format and passing score
The PMI-RMP exam has 115 questions, of which 100 are scored and 15 are pretest questions that PMI uses to trial new items. You cannot tell which are which, so treat every question as scored. You get 150 minutes, a little over 1 minute 15 seconds per question.
You can take the exam at a Pearson VUE testing center, which PMI recommends, or securely online. PMI lists three languages: English, Arabic and Simplified Chinese.
PMI does not publish a PMI-RMP passing score. Its handbook says only that the passing score for all PMI exams is determined by sound psychometric analysis. Once approved, you have a one-year eligibility period and up to three attempts to pass.

What is on the PMI-RMP exam?
PMI’s Exam Content Outline splits the test into five domains. Risk identification and risk analysis carry 23% each, so almost half the exam is about finding and assessing risks. Risk response is the smallest domain at 13%.
- Risk Strategy and Planning — 22%
- Risk Identification — 23%
- Risk Analysis — 23%
- Risk Response — 13%
- Monitor and Close Risks — 19%

PMI-RMP certification training
Because 30 or 40 hours of risk management education are part of the eligibility rules, PMI RMP training is not optional for most candidates. PMI points to instructor-led PMI-RMP exam prep courses from PMI Authorized Training Partners (ATPs), offered online or in person, and links to a search for ATPs that teach PMI-RMP.
PMI RMP certification training comes in many formats — a multi-week course, a weekend class, an intensive boot camp. What matters for your application is that the hours are formal project risk management education; self-study does not count. Ask any provider how many qualifying hours their course delivers before you book it.

PMI-RMP study materials and practice tests
PMI names two publications in its PMI-RMP exam prep: Risk Management in Portfolios, Programs, and Projects: A Practice Guide, and the PMBOK Guide. Both are free for PMI members. The Exam Content Outline is the document that defines what the exam measures, so study against its five domains.
For practice, PMI sells PMI Study Hall for PMI-RMP, with access for three months from activation. It includes a full practice exam with 115 questions and mini practice exams of 10 questions each. PMI’s store did not display a price when checked.

PMI-RMP dumps and exam confidentiality
PMI’s handbook includes an agreement that every candidate accepts: not to discuss, debrief or disclose, in any manner, the specific content of PMI examination questions and answers. Violations can lead to consequences up to and including revocation of certification or permanent suspension from PMI exams.
A PMI-RMP dump that claims to show real exam questions comes from exactly that kind of disclosure. Using one risks the certification you are working for, and it is no substitute for understanding the five domains.

Renewal, salary and whether PMI-RMP is worth it
PMI-RMP holders need 30 professional development units in each three-year cycle to keep the certification.
PMI publishes no salary figure of its own for PMI-RMP holders, so no number is given here. Whether it is worth it depends on your role: it requires risk management experience before you start, which makes it most useful for people who already handle project risk and want that specialism recognised separately from a general project management credential.

PMI-RMP practice questions
Certsqill’s PMI-RMP practice questions are expert-developed: every question explains each answer option, and a readiness score for each of the five domains shows whether risk identification and risk analysis, almost half the exam, are ready before you test.
