What is the PRINCE2 Foundation certification?
PRINCE2 is a project management method, and the PRINCE2 Foundation certificate is the first of its two levels, followed by Practitioner. PeopleCert runs the exam and names the current one PRINCE2 Project Management Foundation (Version 7), or PRINCE2 7 Foundation for short.
PRINCE2 Agile is a separate certification with its own exams, and this page is not about it.
PeopleCert describes what Foundation covers: the seven PRINCE2 principles, the seven practices, the seven processes, roles and responsibilities, people management, sustainability in project performance, digital and data management, and tailoring the method to a project. Version 7 adds a people element to the method that PeopleCert calls out explicitly.

PRINCE2 Foundation exam: format and pass mark
PeopleCert states 60 multiple-choice questions in 60 minutes, closed book. That is one minute per question, with no manual on the desk.
The PRINCE2 Foundation pass mark is 60 per cent: PeopleCert states a minimum required score of 60%, which on 60 questions is 36 correct answers. Unlike scaled exams, this is a plain share of questions, so a practice score is directly readable against the line.
PeopleCert offers the exam online-proctored or through accredited training organisations, in 14 languages, and publishes official results within two business days.

PRINCE2 certification cost and renewal
PeopleCert sells the Foundation exam as a bundle with the official eBook and a Learning Resource Kit, and the listed price depends on your region. On 6 October 2026 the USD listing showed $701.00 for the exam bundle and the EU listing €645.00 including VAT. Bundles with eLearning cost more.
PRINCE2 Foundation is not a lifetime certificate. PeopleCert states renewal every three years, with 60 CPD points needed, which it ties to its PeopleCert Plus membership.

PRINCE2 Foundation practice exam and sample questions
This site holds 1,400 PRINCE2 7 Foundation practice questions covering principles, practices, processes, people and key concepts. Every question shows all options, which one is correct, and why each of the others is wrong — in a closed-book exam, the margin usually sits in the answers that sound like PRINCE2 but are not.
Practice questions are there so you meet the exam’s phrasing before exam day.
You can start free: the first 20 questions here need no signup. Because the pass mark is a straight 60%, your share of correct answers is a fair first reading — what matters more is which part of the method still costs you points.
PRINCE2 Foundation course or practice questions?
For a PRINCE2 Foundation course, PeopleCert sells its own eLearning bundles and also delivers the exam through accredited training organisations. A “Foundation with exam” package or bundle means training plus the voucher.
Practice questions do a different job from a course. A course teaches the method; questions show whether you can pick the PRINCE2 answer under exam conditions. With a 60% line on 60 questions, most candidates need both.

PRINCE2 Foundation and Practitioner, and PRINCE2 vs PMP
PRINCE2 Foundation and Practitioner are the two levels of the same method: Foundation tests that you know it, Practitioner that you can apply it. This page and its question bank cover Foundation.
PRINCE2 and PMP come from different bodies — PMP from PMI, PRINCE2 from PeopleCert — and certify different things. PRINCE2 Foundation certifies knowledge of one method; we do not rank the two, because neither body publishes data that would settle it.

What is PRINCE2 certification, in practical terms?
If you are asking what PRINCE2 certification actually gives you: a certificate from PeopleCert that you know a specific, structured project management method. It counts as a project management certification. PRINCE2 certifies the method rather than your track record, though — there is no experience check at Foundation level.
PeopleCert describes Foundation as suitable for any career stage and lists the roles that typically take it: project manager, programme manager, business analyst, risk manager and product manager. In other words, it is aimed at anyone who works on or around projects, not only people with a project manager title.

Does it make you a PRINCE2 certified project manager?
Job adverts and CVs often say PRINCE2 certified project manager, but the certificate itself does not say that. PeopleCert’s titles are PRINCE2 Project Management Foundation and PRINCE2 Project Management Practitioner — they certify knowledge and application of the method, not the job.
So when someone calls themselves a certified project manager, PRINCE2 is the method they are certified in, not the job. Foundation shows you know the method; Practitioner, the second level, shows you can apply and tailor it to a scenario. Employers asking for PRINCE2 often mean Practitioner, so read the advert carefully.

PRINCE2 requirements: Foundation and Practitioner
PeopleCert lists no requirement for Foundation, the entry-level PRINCE2 project management certification: no prior certificate, no experience and no mandatory course. You can buy the exam bundle as a self-study option.
Practitioner is different. PeopleCert requires one of a list of certifications first, including PRINCE2 7 Foundation, PRINCE2 Foundation or Practitioner from the 5th or 6th edition, PMP, CAPM and several IPMA levels. The Practitioner exam is 56 questions and sub-questions worth 70 marks, open book, 150 minutes, with a 60% pass mark, and the exam bundle starts at US$778.00.

The PRINCE2 Foundation syllabus
PeopleCert does not publish the syllabus as a separate download on the certification page, but it lists what the exam covers. For Version 7 that is the seven principles, the seven practices and the seven processes, plus roles and responsibilities, people management, project performance including sustainability, digital and data management, communication, and tailoring.
PeopleCert does not publish how many questions come from each area. Treat the list as a checklist: every item can appear in the PRINCE2 Foundation examination, and none can be skipped on the strength of a weighting.

Cost for PRINCE2 certification: the three official bundles
PeopleCert sells the PRINCE2 Foundation exam only in bundles. On 9 October 2026 the USD listing, including VAT, showed three tiers. Prices differ by region, so check the listing for your country before you budget.
The extra tiers matter if you are weighing a resit. The top bundle includes a free exam re-take; the cheaper two do not.
- Exam bundle (self-study) — US$701.00
- With interactive eLearning — US$1,029.00
- eLearning+ with auto-marked sample papers, the Official Mock Exam and a free re-take — US$1,338.00

PRINCE2 with exam: course packages and bootcamp formats
Training providers often sell PRINCE2 with exam as one package: a course plus the voucher. PeopleCert names its Accredited Training Organizations and groups them into Platinum, Gold, Silver and Bronze tiers, with in-person and online options.
If you are looking at a short, intensive bootcamp format, check three things before paying: that it teaches Version 7, that the exam voucher is included, and that it includes timed practice for the 60-question, 60-minute closed-book paper.

PRINCE2 Agile certification: how it differs
The PRINCE2 Agile certification is a separate track from PRINCE2 Foundation. PeopleCert describes PRINCE2 Agile as a practical solution for scaling agile, for anyone who delivers projects in an agile context. Its current exams are PRINCE2 Agile Foundation and PRINCE2 Agile Practitioner, both Version 2.
PRINCE2 Agile Foundation is 40 multiple-choice questions in 60 minutes, closed book, with a 60% pass mark, and it renews every three years with 20 CPD points rather than 60. PeopleCert states that Version 1 PRINCE2 Agile certifications are being retired, with Version 1 exams to be taken by 31 December 2026.
Which one first? If your organisation runs projects with PRINCE2 governance, Foundation is the base; agile PRINCE2 certification makes sense when that governance has to work with agile delivery teams.

Is PRINCE2 Foundation worth it?
PeopleCert publishes no salary data and no pass rate, so this page cannot answer whether it is worth it with a number. What can be weighed is the commitment: one 60-minute exam with no prerequisites, a bundle price from US$701.00 in the USD listing, and renewal every three years with 60 CPD points.
It also opens the door to Practitioner, which requires a prior certificate such as Foundation. If your target roles ask for PRINCE2, Foundation is the required first step unless you already hold one of the other accepted certifications.
