What is the ServiceNow CIS-SPM certification?
CIS-SPM is the ServiceNow Certified Implementation Specialist – Strategic Portfolio Management. ServiceNow states that the exam confirms you have the knowledge and skills to configure, implement and maintain ServiceNow SPM applications.
According to ServiceNow, a certified specialist can manage financials, resource planning, idea and demand processes, project management and portfolio planning, and uses analytics and integrated solutions to improve decision-making and portfolio performance. Passing the proctored exam awards the CIS-SPM certification and a Credly digital badge.
The credential is aimed at people who set up SPM on real instances: implementation consultants, platform owners and administrators who connect portfolio, project and financial planning in ServiceNow. The learning path’s web address still uses the name Project Portfolio Management (PPM).

How the SPM skill areas fit together
The five areas follow the life of an investment. Ideas and demands come in and are assessed; approved work becomes projects; resources are planned against that work; financials track what it costs; portfolio planning ties it all to the organisation’s priorities.
For the exam, that means knowing the configuration of each application and also how records move between them: what happens to a demand when it is converted, how resource plans relate to projects, and how cost and budget data feed portfolio decisions.
ServiceNow adds that certified specialists use analytics and integrated solutions to improve portfolio performance, so expect the reporting side of SPM to matter as well as the forms and workflows. CIS-SPM exam format, questions and passing score
What ServiceNow states publicly is that CIS-SPM is a proctored exam, part of the mainline certifications that, in ServiceNow’s words, validate your ability to apply key ServiceNow knowledge and skills for products or roles.

CIS-SPM prerequisites and training
ServiceNow bundles the preparation into the Strategic Portfolio Management (SPM) Implementer learning path. ServiceNow describes it as providing all required training and exams to become a ServiceNow Certified Strategic Portfolio Management Implementation Specialist.
The word “required” is the important part: the path contains training that has to be completed as part of the route to certification. CIS-SPM exam preparation course
ServiceNow University also offers a course called Certification Exam Preparation: Certified Implementation Specialist – Strategic Portfolio Management. ServiceNow describes it as providing information and guidance on how to prepare to sit for the CIS-SPM certification exam.
A sensible order is: work through the learning path, read the exam blueprint, use the preparation course to understand the exam itself, and then practise on an instance until the configuration steps are routine rather than remembered.

Registration runs through ServiceNow University. The CIS-SPM certification page links to a registration page that ServiceNow says covers the exam’s purpose, audience, recommended experience, registration process and key policies.
