UiPath advanced developer certification: Automation Developer Professional

What is the UiPath advanced developer certification now?

For years the UiPath advanced developer credential was the Advanced RPA Developer certification, known as UiARD. UiPath retired it on 13 October 2023. In its place UiPath introduced two new certifications in the developer track: the Automation Developer Associate and the Automation Developer Professional. UiPath’s FAQ calls them a new and refreshed version of the RPA Associate and Advanced RPA Developer certifications.

So if you are searching for the advanced UiPath developer exam today, the one you can actually book is the UiPath Certified Professional Automation Developer Professional. UiPath describes it as validating advanced skills in AI and UiPath core automation tools.

There is an even older name in circulation: the UiPath RPA Developer Advanced certification from UiPath’s previous programme, which UiPath says expired on 30 June 2021. Neither of the older credentials can be earned any more.

Is the UiARD certification still valid?

Only until mid-October 2026. UiPath states that credentials obtained before the 13 October 2023 retirement remain valid until October 2026, and that UiARD and UiRPA are scheduled to expire on 15 October 2026. After that, UiPath will no longer recognise UiARD certificates.

If you hold UiARD and want to keep a current UiPath developer credential, the Automation Developer Professional is the replacement at the same level. UiPath does not describe an automatic conversion from UiARD, so plan on sitting the new exam.

Who is the Automation Developer Professional for?

UiPath Academy describes the candidate as someone who is expected to have a proven understanding and extensive hands-on experience with UiPath technologies, including the ability to independently build or lead production level automations in the Robotic Enterprise Framework (REFramework).

UiPath positions it as a deeper level of expertise for roles such as Advanced Automation Developers. The level below it is the Automation Developer Associate.

How much does the UiPath advanced developer exam cost?

The fee for a Professional-level UiPath exam is US$300 plus tax per attempt. For comparison, Associate-level exams are US$150 plus tax.

Every attempt is paid separately, so a retake costs another US$300 plus tax. Pearson VUE asks that you reschedule or cancel at least 48 hours before your appointment; late changes or no-shows forfeit the fee.

UiPath Automation Developer Professional exam format

UiPath Certified Professional exams can include multiple choice, drag-and-drop and simulation-based questions, and a candidate may receive several or all of these types. Lab-based questions are listed only for the Infrastructure Engineer Professional exams.

UiPath does not print the number of questions, the exam duration or the passing score on its web pages. Those details are in the official Exam Description Document linked from UiPath Academy, which we could not retrieve for this page — check it before you book.

At the end of the exam you get a provisional score report with your score and a pass or fail grade. UiPath notes that the pass/fail result has no correlation to how you performed in each section, so the section breakdown is a study aid, not a scorecard.

Where can you take the exam?

Exams are offered in secure proctored environments at Pearson VUE test centers worldwide, or as remotely proctored exams at your own private location via OnVUE. Scheduling for the Automation Developer Professional runs through Pearson VUE.

All UiPath exams are in English and are also available in Japanese, with Japanese-speaking proctoring for Japanese speakers.

Prerequisites and retake rules

UiPath’s FAQ says that some exams have mandatory prerequisites and that you should review the exam description carefully. UiPath’s web pages do not state a prerequisite for the Automation Developer Professional itself, so confirm in the Exam Description Document before booking rather than assuming you must hold the Associate first.

If you fail, you wait two weeks before the second attempt and one month between every attempt after that. Pearson VUE’s UiPath page confirms the two-week wait after a first failed attempt.

How long is the certification valid?

Starting from 13 October 2023, all UiPath Certified Professional certifications have a 3-year validity period. UiPath expects certified professionals to keep their skills current by recertifying every three years.

Because UiPath products change quickly, recertification is also how the credential stays aligned with the current platform version rather than the one you originally studied.

Official UiPath Academy training for the exam

The official training is the Automation Developer Professional Training learning plan (v2024.10) on UiPath Academy, which UiPath sums up as learning to build production-ready enterprise automations.

Its courses map closely to the advanced skill set: state machines in Studio, an introduction to REFramework, building REFramework projects with Orchestrator queues and with tabular data, Orchestrator triggers and monitoring, advanced UI automation, AI Computer Vision, Invoke Method and Invoke Code, and coded automation for developers.

UiPath says you can prepare through UiPath Academy or other training sources; the Academy learning plan is the one built for this exam.

UiPath practice tests and Certsqill

UiPath offers a free online practice test for the Automation Developer Professional, linked from UiPath Academy. UiPath notes that practice tests use static questions and that repeating one until you score high does not ensure a high score on the proctored exam. UiPath also warns against paying for or relying on cheat sites, and says it may revoke any certifications earned in breach of its candidate agreement or exam security policy.
