CCNA training and courses: what Cisco offers and how to choose

There is one CCNA exam, 200-301, and Cisco names one course built for it: Implementing and Administering Cisco Solutions (CCNA). Around that sit free Networking Academy courses, self-paced and instructor-led options, and a long list of bootcamps and videos. This page sorts them by what they actually give you, using what Cisco publishes.

See the CCNA practice questions →

What is a CCNA course?

A CCNA course is any structured training that prepares you for exam 200-301, the only exam behind the Cisco Certified Network Associate certification. That is also the short answer to what CCNA training is: teaching mapped to Cisco’s published exam topics, ideally with labs, so you can configure and troubleshoot what the exam asks about.

Cisco’s own exam topics document names the official one: “The course, Implementing and Administering Cisco Solutions (CCNA), helps candidates prepare for this exam.” Any other Cisco CCNA course — or a CCNA course from someone else — is measured against the same list. The course is optional: Cisco lists no prerequisites for the exam, so you can sit 200-301 without taking any training at all.

Official Cisco CCNA training

Cisco offers its official Cisco Certified Network Associate CCNA training in several forms. On Cisco U., the Implementing and Administering Cisco Solutions | CCNA Learning Path is the self-paced route, with guided learning paths and hands-on practice. Through the Cisco Learning Locator you find instructor-led, classroom-style sessions, online or in person, delivered by Cisco and its authorised Learning Partners. And for labs, Cisco points to Cisco Modeling Labs and simulated environments.

So when people search for CCNA training Cisco runs itself, or the Cisco Certified Network Associate CCNA course, this is it: the official Cisco CCNA certification course, one name, available self-paced or instructor-led. If you want Cisco Certified Network Associate CCNA training online, both routes work remotely — the Cisco U. path entirely, and Learning Locator classes where the partner offers an online session.

Cisco does not publish a course length on its CCNA pages, so check the duration with whoever delivers your session. Cisco CCNA training online through Cisco U. also leaves the pace to you.

  • Cisco U. — Implementing and Administering Cisco Solutions | CCNA Learning Path (self-paced)
  • Cisco Learning Locator — instructor-led classes from Cisco and authorised Learning Partners, online or in person
  • CCNA Prep On Demand — Cisco describes it as 50+ hours of resources, webinars and practice quizzes
  • Cisco Modeling Labs — Cisco’s environment for building and troubleshooting networks hands-on

Free CCNA courses and training

The main source of free CCNA courses is Cisco itself. Cisco describes its Networking Academy as a way to “learn from expert educators around the globe, both in-person and online, for free”, and the Cisco Learning Network adds free study resources, forums and virtual events. That makes the Networking Academy the obvious first stop for a CCNA free online course, and the Learning Network the place for free CCNA online training in community form.

Cisco CCNA training free of charge, in other words, comes mainly through those two channels. In practice you can do much of your CCNA online study free of charge, and plenty of free CCNA training online exists beyond Cisco too — check any of it against the 200-301 v1.1 exam topics before you invest weeks in it. What no free CCNA course online can include is the exam itself.

Is there a free CCNA certification?

No. The course can be free; the certification is not. Cisco lists the 200-301 exam at $US300, or Cisco Learning Credits, and the CCNA certification only comes from passing that exam. A search for a free CCNA certification or a CCNA certificate free of charge usually means one of two things: a free course, or a record of completing one.

If you are looking for a CCNA free course with certificate, keep the two apart. Whatever a free course gives you when you finish it, it is not the Cisco Certified Network Associate certification, which Cisco states is valid for three years once you pass.

CCNA: Introduction to Networks and the course final exam

CCNA: Introduction to Networks is a Cisco Networking Academy course. Networking Academy describes it as “the first in a three-course series to build the skills you need for associate-level roles”. The CCNA Introduction to Networks course final exam is an assessment inside that course — it is not the 200-301 certification exam, and passing it does not make you CCNA certified.

The same applies to searches such as “CCNA 2 course final exam”, which refer to the next course in that series. Lists of CCNA Introduction to Networks course final exam answers circulate online; using them only hides the gaps the assessment is there to show you, and the certification exam is a different paper anyway.

CCNA online courses and online training

Most CCNA online courses fall into three groups: Cisco’s own self-paced learning path on Cisco U., live online classes found through the Cisco Learning Locator, and independent recorded courses. Cisco CCNA online courses are the first two: Cisco CCNA online training in both forms is built around the official course, Implementing and Administering Cisco Solutions (CCNA). If you want a Cisco CCNA course online with a live instructor, the Learning Locator is where to look.

An online CCNA certification course has one job — cover the 200-301 exam topics — so the format matters less than the fit. Self-paced suits people with irregular hours; live online training suits people who need a schedule and an instructor to ask. Either way, a CCNA online course should include labs, because much of the exam is configuration.

Searches for “online CCNA certification” or “CCNA certification online” often mean the exam rather than the course. Cisco states that all Associate, Professional and Expert written exams are offered both in person and online, so CCNA itself can be taken online as well as at a Pearson VUE test center. That is the answer whenever someone asks can you take the CCNA exam online: yes.

How to choose the best CCNA course

There is no single best CCNA course for everyone, and we do not rank providers. What makes the best CCNA training for you is how well it covers the exam, and that can be checked. Before paying for any CCNA certification course — online or in a classroom — work through these points:

The same checklist applies to the best CCNA online course, the best CCNA online training or a classroom CCNA training program: if a course cannot show you where it covers each of the six areas, it is not a complete CCNA course.

  • Version: does it state it covers CCNA Exam v1.1 (200-301), the current exam?
  • Coverage: all six areas — Network Fundamentals 20%, Network Access 20%, IP Connectivity 25%, IP Services 10%, Security Fundamentals 15%, Automation and Programmability 10%.
  • Labs: does every configuration topic come with hands-on work, in Packet Tracer, Cisco Modeling Labs or real equipment?
  • Delivery: is it Cisco’s official course, or delivered by an authorised Cisco Learning Partner? Independent courses can be good, but check them against the exam topics.
  • Practice: does it test you across all six areas, not just at the end of each chapter?

CCNA bootcamps

A CCNA bootcamp is the same exam content compressed into a short, intensive block, usually instructor-led. Cisco’s CCNA pages describe instructor-led, classroom-style training rather than bootcamps, so a Cisco CCNA bootcamp in practice means an instructor-led class on the official course from Cisco or an authorised Learning Partner, found through the Cisco Learning Locator.

CCNA boot camps work best for people who already know some networking and want a deadline. If you are new to the subject, a compressed CCNA certification boot camp leaves little time to lab each topic until it sticks. A CCNA certification bootcamp that promises a guaranteed pass is promising something Cisco does not publish a passing score for. When you compare CCNA bootcamps, ask three things: is it the official Implementing and Administering Cisco Solutions (CCNA) course or an independent syllabus, how much of the time is hands-on lab work, and does the price include the exam — Cisco lists that separately at $US300.

A CCNA crash course is the even shorter version: useful as a final review, not as a first pass through 200-301.

Training centers and institutes

A CCNA training center or CCNA training institute is a classroom provider. The useful distinction is whether it is an authorised Cisco Learning Partner — Cisco’s Learning Locator lists instructor-led training from Cisco and those partners — or an independent school teaching its own version of the syllabus.

Do not confuse a training center with a test center. The exam is administered by Pearson VUE: you register through Cisco’s Certification Tracker portal, by phone with Pearson VUE, or at a Pearson VUE test center where available.

CCNA video training and training material

CCNA training videos are the most common format for self-study, and Cisco has its own: CCNA Prep is a video series on the exam topics, and CCNA Prep On Demand bundles more than 50 hours of resources, webinars and practice quizzes. A CCNA video course from anyone else should be checked against the 200-301 v1.1 topics, because CCNA course videos recorded for an older version of the exam are still widely shared.

For written Cisco CCNA training material, Cisco points to Cisco Press, which it describes as its authorised publisher, and to the Cisco Learning Network’s free resources. Our CCNA study guide covers the books and other CCNA training materials in detail.

Networking, Python and cybersecurity courses

A general CCNA networking course and the CCNA are nearly the same thing: the exam is about building and troubleshooting networks, with IP Connectivity the heaviest area at 25%.

A CCNA Python course is a different matter. The word Python does not appear in Cisco’s 200-301 v1.1 exam topics. The Automation and Programmability area (10%) covers how automation affects network management, controller-based and software-defined architecture, REST-based APIs, configuration management tools such as Ansible and Terraform, and reading JSON-encoded data. Python is a useful skill for network automation, but no Python course is required for CCNA.

A CCNA cybersecurity course — or a CCNA cyber security course, as it is often typed — usually belongs to a separate certification. CCNA Cybersecurity is its own Cisco credential with its own exam, 200-201 CCNACBR, Understanding Cisco Cybersecurity Operations Fundamentals, and its own learning path on Cisco U. The networking CCNA covers security only in its Security Fundamentals area, at 15%.

From course to exam: test yourself first

A CCNA prep course teaches; it does not tell you whether you are ready. Cisco publishes no passing score and no question count for 200-301, so the useful check is whether you can handle questions from every topic area. That is the gap a CCNA online test or practice set fills between the end of a course and booking the exam: taking a CCNA test online across all six areas shows you what the course did not stick.

Certsqill’s CCNA practice questions are expert-developed against Cisco’s exam topics, with an explanation for every answer option and a readiness score per exam domain, so you can see which of the six areas still costs you points. You can start with free CCNA practice questions, and paid access comes with a 7-day money-back guarantee.

CCNA training & courses: questions people ask

What is the official Cisco CCNA training course?

Implementing and Administering Cisco Solutions (CCNA). Cisco’s exam topics document states that this course helps candidates prepare for exam 200-301. It is available as a learning path on Cisco U. and as instructor-led training from Cisco and authorised Learning Partners. Checked 9 October 2026.

Is there a free CCNA course?

Yes. Cisco describes its Networking Academy courses as free, in person and online, and the Cisco Learning Network offers free study resources. The exam itself is not free: Cisco lists it at $US300, or Cisco Learning Credits. Checked 9 October 2026.

Is the CCNA test free, or is there a free CCNA exam?

No. There is no CCNA free exam; Cisco charges $US300 for 200-301, or Cisco Learning Credits. What you can find free is practice: a free CCNA test of your readiness, such as the free practice questions on Certsqill, is not the certification exam. Checked 9 October 2026.

Can you take CCNA exam online from home?

Yes. Cisco states that all Associate, Professional and Expert written exams are offered both in person and online, and CCNA 200-301 is an associate exam. Pearson VUE runs Cisco’s online exams through OnVUE, which requires a quiet private room where you stay alone, a working webcam, microphone and speaker, a single screen and a government-issued photo ID. Checked 9 October 2026.

Is there a CCNA online course free of charge?

Yes. Cisco describes its Networking Academy courses as free and available online, and the Cisco Learning Network adds free study resources. Online CCNA training free of charge is a reasonable place to start; the exam fee of $US300 is separate. Checked 9 October 2026.

Is a Cisco CCNA free course enough to pass?

It can cover a lot of ground, but check it against the six areas of the 200-301 v1.1 exam topics, lab every configuration topic, and test yourself across all areas before you book. Whether a Cisco CCNA course free or paid is enough depends on that coverage, not on the price.

What is a Cisco certified CCNA course?

Usually people mean the official course, Implementing and Administering Cisco Solutions (CCNA), delivered by Cisco or an authorised Cisco Learning Partner. Ask any provider which of the two it is, or whether it teaches its own syllabus. Checked 9 October 2026.

How long is a CCNA preparation course?

Cisco does not publish a course length on its CCNA pages. Self-paced paths run at your speed; instructor-led classes and bootcamps vary by provider, so ask before you book.

What is the best CCNA course online?

We do not rank providers. Use the checklist above: current 200-301 v1.1 coverage, all six areas, hands-on labs, official or authorised delivery, and practice across every area.

Does Cisco run a Cisco CCNA boot camp?

Cisco’s CCNA pages describe instructor-led, classroom-style sessions, online or in person, from Cisco and authorised Learning Partners, rather than bootcamps. An intensive class built on the official course is the closest equivalent. Checked 9 October 2026.

Do I need a CCNA course to take the exam?

No. Cisco lists no prerequisites for 200-301. A course helps most people, but it is not a requirement. Source: Cisco CCNA page, checked 9 October 2026.

What should a CCNA complete course cover?

All six areas of CCNA Exam v1.1 (200-301): Network Fundamentals, Network Access, IP Connectivity, IP Services, Security Fundamentals, and Automation and Programmability. A CCNA full course should also include labs for every configuration topic.

Is a Cisco CCNA 200 301 course the same as a CCNA course?

Yes. 200-301 is the only CCNA exam, so any current CCNA course is a 200-301 course. Check that it targets version 1.1, which Cisco lists as the current exam. Checked 9 October 2026.

Which Cisco CCNA certification training courses are instructor-led?

Cisco’s Learning Locator lists classroom-style sessions, online or in person, led by Cisco and authorised Learning Partners. Cisco does not publish a course length on its CCNA pages. Checked 9 October 2026.

Is CCNA training online as good as a classroom?

For the exam, coverage and lab time matter more than format. Online training suits people with irregular hours; a classroom suits people who need a fixed schedule. Both should cover all six exam areas.

Where can I find CCNA training free online from Cisco?

Cisco Networking Academy, which Cisco describes as free, and the Cisco Learning Network, which offers free study resources and forums. Checked 9 October 2026.

How much does CCNA certification training cost?

Cisco does not list course prices on its CCNA pages; they depend on the format and the provider. The exam fee is separate: $US300, or Cisco Learning Credits. Checked 9 October 2026.
