Google IT Support certification: cost, courses and how it is assessed
The Google IT Support certification is a course-based Google Career Certificate delivered on Coursera — there is no proctored exam to book. Google states the cost as $49 USD per month after a 7-day free trial in the US and Canada, the pace as self-paced with many learners finishing in three to six months, and no experience or degree required.

What is the Google IT Support certification?
The Google IT Support certification is a Google Career Certificate: an online training programme, designed and built by people at Google, that Google says provides the skills to find an entry-level job in IT support, even without prior experience. It is offered on Coursera, where it is listed as the Google IT Support Professional Certificate.
The important difference from vendor certifications such as the Google Cloud exams is how you earn it. There is no exam appointment, no test center and no proctor. You complete the courses, pass the assessments built into them, and receive a shareable certificate that Coursera says you can add to your LinkedIn profile.
It is pitched at the very start of an IT career: help desk, troubleshooting and support roles. Coursera lists it as beginner level, and Google states that no experience or degree is required.

How much does the Google IT Support certification cost?
There is no exam fee because there is no exam. In the US and Canada the programme is a subscription: $49 USD per month after an initial 7-day free trial. Google states that in other countries where Google Career Certificates are available, the cost may be lower.
So the total you pay is the monthly fee multiplied by the number of months you stay subscribed. Google gives no fixed total; because the programme is self-paced, finishing faster costs less and pausing for months costs more.
Google’s page currently also advertises three months of Google AI Pro with enrolment, renewing at the standard rate of $19.99 per month after that period. That is a separate subscription — worth noting so it does not renew unnoticed.

Is there a Google IT Support exam?
No. Neither Google’s certificate page nor the Coursera listing describes a final exam or a proctored test. Google lists hands-on activities, quizzes and assignments, and regular assessments; Coursera refers to graded assessments within the courses.
That means the format questions people ask about other certifications — number of questions, time limit, testing center or online proctoring — do not apply here. You work through each course online, on your own schedule, and the certificate follows from completing the programme.
If you need a proctored, exam-based credential for a job posting, that is a different thing; the comparison with CompTIA A+ further down explains how Google links the two.

Google IT Support passing score
Google does not publish a passing threshold for the course assessments, on its certificate page or on the Coursera listing. Any percentage quoted elsewhere is not from either page.
For planning, the useful consequence is that there is no single high-stakes sitting. The assessments sit inside each course, so the practical risk is not failing one exam but stalling between courses while the monthly subscription keeps running.

What is in the Google IT Support certificate?
Google lists five courses, plus an optional new course on using AI in the job search. Coursera counts the programme as a six-course series, which matches the five core courses plus that optional one.
The skills Google names are troubleshooting and customer care, networking, operating systems, system administration, security and using AI to boost productivity; Google also states that learners pick up Python. The courses are:
- Technical Support Fundamentals
- The Bits and Bytes of Computer Networking
- Operating Systems and You: Becoming a Power User
- System Administration and IT Infrastructure Services
- IT Security: Defense Against the Digital Dark Arts
- Optional: Accelerate Your Job Search with AI

Google IT Support prerequisites
Google states that there are no prerequisites for the IT Support Certificate and that no experience or degree is required. Coursera lists the programme as beginner level with no prior experience required.
Time is the real requirement. Google says the certificates are completely self-paced and that many learners finish in three to six months; Coursera puts it at three months at 10 hours a week.

Does the Google IT Support certificate expire? College credit
Neither Google’s page nor the Coursera listing states a validity period or a renewal requirement for the certificate. Unlike the Google Cloud exams, there is no published renewal process, and this page will not invent one.
Google states that learners can earn an ACE recommendation of 15 college credits for completing the certificate, and that each institution decides whether to accept credit recommendations, so credit is not guaranteed. The Coursera listing is inconsistent on this point: its description says up to 15 college credits, its FAQ says 12. Check with the institution you have in mind before relying on either figure.

Google IT Support study materials and training
The programme is the training. Everything assessed is taught inside the courses on Coursera, with hands-on activities alongside the videos, quizzes and assignments.
For graduates in the US, Google also lists access to CareerCircle as a job-search resource, and the optional AI job-search course covers the step after the certificate. Google’s certificate page and FAQ are the reference for the current course list and pricing; the optional AI course is described there as new.

Google IT Support certificate vs CompTIA A+
They are different kinds of credential. The Google IT Support certificate is a course programme with assessments built in. CompTIA A+ is a certification from CompTIA that you earn by passing CompTIA’s A+ certification exams.
Google connects the two directly: it states that IT Support Certificate graduates who also pass the CompTIA A+ certification exams earn a dual credential from CompTIA and Google, and the Coursera listing says the programme also prepares you for the CompTIA A+ exams. In other words, Google positions its certificate as preparation that can lead into A+, not as a replacement for it.

No. Google states that graduates who also pass the CompTIA A+ certification exams earn a dual credential from CompTIA and Google. Source: Grow with Google, checked 8 October 2026.
Is the Google IT Support certificate worth it?
Whether it is worth it depends on what you need it for, and the useful way to decide is to weigh what Google actually states against what the certificate is not. On the cost side, Google states $49 USD per month after a 7-day free trial in the US and Canada, possibly lower elsewhere, with many learners finishing in three to six months. There are no prerequisites, so the real investment is your time.
On the benefit side, Google lists a recommendation of 15 college credits (acceptance is up to each institution), a dual credential from CompTIA and Google for graduates who also pass the CompTIA A+ certification exams, and an Employer Consortium of over 150 U.S. companies that Google says considers graduates for entry-level roles.
What it is not: a proctored exam-based certification. If a job posting names CompTIA A+ or another exam credential specifically, this certificate on its own does not meet that line — Google itself positions it as preparation that can lead into A+. Google’s pages quote job-market salary figures from third-party data; this page does not repeat them, because they describe the IT support field, not the effect of this certificate.

Keeping the subscription cost under control
Because the price is monthly, the total depends on your pace. Planning your weeks before you start the 7-day trial — and finishing one course before opening the next — is the most direct way to keep the cost down.
Google’s page also states that enrolment currently includes a 3-month trial of Google AI Pro, which then renews at $19.99 per month. If you do not want it, cancel it before the trial ends so it does not add to the monthly cost.
