What is the Google Professional Cloud Network Engineer certification?
Google describes a Professional Cloud Network Engineer as responsible for the design, implementation and management of Google Cloud network infrastructure, with network architectures built for high availability, scalability, resiliency and security.
In concrete terms that means VPC networks, routing, load balancing, Cloud NAT and Cloud DNS; hybrid and multicloud connectivity through Cloud Interconnect and Cloud VPN; troubleshooting with Google Cloud Observability and Network Intelligence Center; and network security with Cloud Next Generation Firewall, VPC firewalls, Secure Web Proxy, VPC Service Controls and Google Cloud Armor.
It is one of Google Cloud’s professional-level certifications, which Google validates for two years rather than the three it gives foundational and associate certifications.

How much does the Professional Cloud Network Engineer exam cost?
The registration fee is US$200, plus tax where applicable. Google’s retake policy states that payment is required each time you register, so a retake costs the full fee again.
Renewal is also by exam. Google says renewal costs vary by exam and points to the exam page for the price; the Professional Cloud Network Engineer page does not list a separate renewal price.

Professional Cloud Network Engineer exam format
The exam lasts two hours and has 50 to 60 questions, a mix of multiple choice and multiple select. That gives you two to two and a half minutes per question, depending on how many questions your exam has.
You can take it online with a remote proctor, or onsite at a testing center — search for Google Cloud on the Pearson VUE test-center locator. The exam is offered in English and Japanese.
You see a provisional pass or fail on screen as soon as you submit, and Google asks you to allow 7 to 10 days for the result to be confirmed.

What is the passing score for the Professional Cloud Network Engineer exam?
Google does not publish one. Its certification FAQ states that exams are designed only to determine whether you meet a minimum passing standard, and only pass/fail results are provided — no score and no section breakdown.
That makes your own section-by-section readiness the only signal you have. With the largest section at about 21% and the smallest at about 13%, none of the six can be skipped.

What is on the Professional Cloud Network Engineer exam?
The official exam guide has six sections with approximate weightings. Design and implementation of VPC networks together make up about 41% of the exam; the remaining sections cover managed services, hybrid connectivity, operations and security.
The subsections show where the detail is: designing for and maintaining GKE clusters, Network Connectivity Center (in both the VPC and hybrid sections), load balancing, Cloud CDN and Cloud DNS, Cloud Interconnect, site-to-site IPsec VPN and Cloud Router, Network Intelligence Center, and on the security side Cloud Armor, NGFW policies and VPC firewall rules, Cloud NAT and Secure Web Proxy for egress, and Packet Mirroring.
- Designing and planning a Google Cloud VPC network — ~21%
- Implementing a VPC network — ~20%
- Configuring managed network services — ~16%
- Configuring and implementing hybrid and multicloud network interconnectivity — ~16%
- Managing, monitoring, and troubleshooting network operations — ~14%
- Configuring, implementing and managing a cloud network security solution — ~13%

Prerequisites and recommended experience
There are no formal prerequisites. Google recommends three or more years of industry experience, including at least one year designing and managing solutions on Google Cloud.
That recommendation is noticeably higher than for the Associate Cloud Engineer, where Google suggests six months of hands-on experience. Plan accordingly if you are coming to it straight from an associate-level certification.

Retake policy
For professional exams, Google allows a maximum of four attempts in a two-year period. After a first failed attempt you can retake after 14 days; after a second you wait 60 days; after a third you wait 365 days. Each attempt is paid in full.
Google’s terms add that trying to get around the retake policy, for example by registering under a different name, leads to a denied or revoked certification.

How long is the certification valid and how do you renew it?
All professional Google Cloud certifications are valid for two years from the date you certify. Renewal is by exam: you can take the renewal exam from 60 days before your certification’s inactive date, and a successful renewal adds two years.
You can still renew up to 30 days after the inactive date. For this group of professional certifications, Google lists continuing-education renewal as not yet available and no shorter renewal exam, so plan for the standard exam again.

How to prepare and study for the exam
Google’s own preparation resources start with the exam guide, which lists every topic that may appear. Next is the Professional Network Engineer learning path on Google Cloud Skills Boost, which combines online training, in-person classes and hands-on labs, plus a skill badge you can earn along the way.
Google also publishes sample questions to show the question format, certification webinars with tips from Google experts, and the Google Cloud documentation for depth on each service. Given that Google recommends years of experience rather than months, hands-on lab time deserves a real place in your study plan.

Exam dumps and Google’s exam rules
Google’s exam terms treat exam content as Google’s confidential information and explicitly prohibit using or accessing unauthorised exam content shared by someone else, including content found online, in forums or in chat rooms.
The consequences listed include invalidating your results, revoking any or all of your certifications and permanently barring you from the programme. Dumps are not exam prep; they are a risk to every Google Cloud certification you hold.
