What is the MuleSoft Certified Developer – Level 1?
MuleSoft Certified Developer – Level 1, often shortened to MCD Level 1, is the entry-level developer certification for MuleSoft’s Anypoint Platform. Salesforce describes certified MuleSoft developers as having proven knowledge and skills to design, build, test and debug, deploy and manage basic APIs and integrations.
The exam guide sets the experience level: candidates should have worked on basic Mule 4 projects with guidance and supervision. It is aimed at developers who build integrations day to day, not yet at architects.

The new name: Salesforce Certified MuleSoft Developer
You will no longer find a “Level 1” title on the official pages. Salesforce now lists the certification as Salesforce Certified MuleSoft Developer, in the exam guide on Salesforce Help and on its Trailhead credential page. The former MuleSoft training address for the Level 1 exam redirects to MuleSoft products on Trailhead Academy.
The level structure is still there under the new names: Salesforce Certified MuleSoft Developer II lists Salesforce Certified MuleSoft Developer as its prerequisite. So the old Level 1 → Level 2 path now reads Developer → Developer II.
Salesforce does not give a date for the rename on the pages we checked, and we found no official statement on how older Level 1 certificates are displayed. If you hold one, check your Trailhead profile.

How much does the MuleSoft Developer exam cost?
The registration fee is US$200 (JPY 30,000), plus applicable taxes as required by local law. A retake costs US$100 (JPY 15,000), plus taxes.
The exam guide lists one fee for both testing-center and online delivery. Salesforce does not set out the waiting time between retakes in the exam guide, so check the current rules before you rebook.

MuleSoft Certified Developer exam format and passing score
The exam has 60 multiple-choice questions and up to five unscored questions that Salesforce uses to trial new items. You have 120 minutes, and the passing score is 70%.
It is proctored, either onsite at a testing center or online. No hard-copy or online materials may be referenced during the exam, so the MuleSoft documentation and your own notes stay closed. The exam guide states that the questions align to the Spring ’24 release.

What is on the exam? The twelve sections
Salesforce splits the exam into twelve sections, none larger than 10%. That spread is the main challenge: you cannot pass on DataWeave alone or on connectors alone, because every part of building a Mule application gets a share.
The five 10% blocks — Mule events, application structure, connectors, record processing and data transformation — are the core of everyday Mule 4 development. Error handling, routing and API design follow at 8% each.
- Creating Application Networks — 7%
- Designing APIs — 8%
- Accessing and Modifying Mule Events — 10%
- Structuring Mule Applications — 10%
- Building API Implementation Interfaces — 7%
- Using Connectors — 10%
- Processing Records — 10%
- Transforming Data — 10%
- Routing Events — 8%
- Handling Errors — 8%
- Debugging and Troubleshooting Mule Applications — 5%
- Deploying and Managing APIs and Integrations — 7%

Prerequisites and recommended experience
There is no formal prerequisite: the exam guide states “Prerequisite: None”. What Salesforce recommends is experience with basic Mule 4 projects under guidance and supervision.
If you have never built a Mule application, that recommendation matters more than any reading list. The exam asks what a flow will do with a given event, which connector configuration fits a scenario, or where an error will be caught — questions you answer fastest if you have run the code yourself.

Official training for the MuleSoft Developer exam
Salesforce recommends the Trailhead Academy course Anypoint Platform Development: Fundamentals (DEX401) and the trailmix Getting Started with Anypoint Platform (MAX150). The course price is not stated in the exam guide.
Use the exam guide as your checklist. Work through the twelve sections in order, and for each one build a small Mule application that exercises it — a flow that routes events, one that transforms data with DataWeave, one that fails on purpose and handles the error.

How to keep the certification
You must complete the Salesforce Certified MuleSoft Developer maintenance badge on Trailhead once a year. If you do not complete all maintenance requirements by the due date, the certification expires.
Plan the badge as a recurring task in your calendar: missing the due date means the credential expires.

MuleSoft Developer vs MuleSoft Developer II
Developer is the entry point; Developer II is the next step. The Developer II exam guide lists Salesforce Certified MuleSoft Developer as its prerequisite, so you cannot skip ahead.
If you are choosing where to start, the answer is fixed: pass the Developer exam first, then use the experience you build on real projects to prepare for Developer II.

MuleSoft Developer dumps and practice questions
Salesforce prohibits exam dumps outright. Its certification blog lists “Distribute, use, or request exam dumps” as forbidden, says unofficial dumps violate the Code of Conduct, and warns that they can contain inaccurate and outdated information. The Code of Conduct bans sharing or using exam content in any format, with sanctions up to suspension from all exams for 90 days or more and revocation of earned certifications.
Certsqill’s MuleSoft Developer practice questions are expert-developed: every question explains each answer option, and you see a readiness score for each exam section.
