What is the Okta Certified Developer cert?
Okta Certified Developer is one of Okta’s core certifications. Okta’s handbook describes the certified developer as someone who builds secure user experiences with Okta’s APIs and SDKs, and expects knowledge of OAuth and OpenID Connect, API Access Management for authorisation, SSO with OIDC, and the Lifecycle Management administrative APIs.
It is separate from the Okta Professional–Administrator–Consultant line, which is aimed at people who configure and implement Okta for an organisation. The developer cert is about code that talks to Okta.

How much does the Okta Developer exam cost?
The OKDEV1 exam costs US$250. Each further attempt after a fail costs US$100, a figure the handbook confirms for all Okta certification retakes.
There is no prerequisite certification to pay for first: Okta’s study guide lists none for this exam.

Okta Developer exam format
OKDEV1 has two parts with separate timers. Part I is 45 multiple-choice questions in 60 minutes. Part II is four performance-based, hands-on use cases in 90 minutes. Time you save in Part I does not carry over to Part II, and there is no scheduled break; you can request a short one, but the clock keeps running.
The exam is proctored online through ProctorU by Meazure Learning. A proctor may ask for an extra room scan after a break.

What is on the Okta Developer exam?
Part I is weighted across eight domains. The administrative APIs, OIDC/OAuth flows and API design principles together carry more than half of the multiple-choice score.
- Administrative APIs — 20% (schemas, policies, authenticators, OAuth configuration, apps)
- SSO and API Access Management with OIDC and OAuth — 18% (authorization code flow, token validation, refresh and revoke)
- Design Principles — 18% (HTTP verbs and headers, response codes, rate limiting, redirect vs CORS trusted origins, logout)
- Lifecycle Management — 16% (Users API, user states, profile sourcing, Groups API, Just-in-Time provisioning)
- Authentication — 9%
- Debug Techniques — 9% (system log, admin dashboard, API calls)
- Okta Hooks — 9% (inline and event hooks)
- Sign-In Widget — 2%

The four hands-on use cases
Part II tests whether you can actually build the integrations. Okta suggests learning to set up Postman and to create an OIDC app and test it with the OIDC Debugger before exam day.
- Federate an App through OIDC — 33%
- Onboard new users with the Management SDK and User and Group APIs — 27%
- Securing an API using OAuth — 20%
- Implement the Okta Sign-In Widget for Authentication — 20%

Okta Developer prerequisites and recommended experience
Okta lists no formal prerequisite. It does recommend working experience with RESTful APIs and web application development, a general understanding of OAuth and OpenID Connect, and working knowledge of Okta Lifecycle Management and the administrative APIs.
If OAuth flows are new to you, start there. A third of Part II is OIDC federation and another fifth is securing an API with OAuth, so a shaky grasp of tokens costs marks in both parts.

Official Okta Developer study materials
Okta strongly recommends its Development: Series I training, while noting that attending does not guarantee a pass. For practice there is a free Okta Developer Practice Exam and a deeper Okta Developer Premier Practice Exam.
The study guide also points to the Okta Help Center, the Okta Content Library and the Okta Community, and says its content may change, so check the latest version before you book.

Okta Certified Developer vs Auth0 Certified Developer
Okta runs two developer certifications. Okta Certified Developer covers the Okta platform’s APIs, SDKs, OIDC/OAuth and Sign-In Widget. Auth0 Certified Developer, which also has no prerequisite, is about designing and implementing Auth0 in B2B and B2C scenarios.
Choose by the product you build on. Teams integrating workforce or customer identity on an Okta org fit the Okta cert; teams building on Auth0 tenants fit the Auth0 one.

Okta Developer passing score, exam rules and renewal
Okta does not publish cut-scores. Results are disclosed as pass or fail only, and the handbook says the result for the Developer exam is emailed within ten business days.
After a first fail you can retake after 24 hours; after each further fail the wait is 14 days. A passed exam cannot be retaken.
Okta’s handbook prohibits “brain-dump” materials, actual exam questions and other unauthorised published exam content. Sanctions include denial of the certification for up to 12 months, a ban of at least six months from any Okta exam, and a permanent ban for repeat violators.
Okta certifications must be renewed every 24 months. For the developer cert, Okta offers an unproctored maintenance exam that renews it for another 24 months.

Okta Developer practice questions
Certsqill’s Okta Developer practice questions are expert-developed and follow the eight Part I domains. Every question explains each answer option, so you learn why one OAuth flow, API call or hook is right and why the others fail.
Your readiness score is shown per domain, so you can see whether administrative APIs, OIDC flows or design principles need more work before you spend US$250 on an attempt. Certsqill comes with a 7-day money-back guarantee.
