What is the PSM 2 certification?
PSM II stands for Professional Scrum Master II. It is the middle of Scrum.org’s three Scrum Master levels: PSM I shows a fundamental level of Scrum mastery, PSM II an advanced level, and PSM III a distinguished level. Scrum.org describes the PSM II certification as evidence that you understand the Scrum Master accountabilities and how a Scrum Team functions.
The step up from PSM I is not about knowing more rules. Scrum.org says that to attempt PSM II you should have advanced Scrum knowledge and in-depth Scrum Master experience, and the five focus areas reflect that: alongside the framework itself they cover developing people and teams, managing products with agility and evolving the organisation — the situations a working Scrum Master deals with every week.
You do not need to hold PSM I to sit the PSM 2 certification exam, but Scrum.org lists it as the recommended certification, and most candidates arrive with it.

How much does PSM II cost?
Scrum.org charges US$250 per attempt for the PSM II assessment, as a one-time payment. You receive a password that is valid for one attempt; it has no expiry date, so you can buy it now and sit later.
There is no annual fee afterwards. Scrum.org states that PSM II is a lifetime certification with no renewal fee, which sets it apart from certifications that need continuing education credits every few years.
If you take the official Professional Scrum Master – Advanced course, the class includes a password for the PSM II assessment. Scrum.org does not publish a course price on the course page; the trainer who runs the class sets it.

PSM II exam format and passing score
The PSM II test has 30 questions and a 90-minute time limit. Question types are multiple choice, multiple answer and true/false, and Scrum.org gives partial credit on some questions. The passing score is 85%.
Ninety minutes for 30 questions is three minutes per question — far more than the 45 seconds per question of PSM I (80 questions in 60 minutes). Use the extra time: the focus areas are about applying Scrum, not reciting it, so read every option before choosing.
The assessment is in English. Scrum.org offers Simplified Chinese through scrum.org.cn and notes that many candidates use the Google Translate browser plugin, while warning that it cannot guarantee translation quality. Its Standard of Conduct allows paper copies of reference material during the assessment but forbids AI tools.

What is on the PSM II assessment?
Scrum.org lists five focus areas for PSM II. They go well beyond the Scrum Guide’s rules into how a Scrum Master develops people, works with product management and changes the organisation around the team.
- Understanding and applying the Scrum framework — empiricism, Scrum Values, the Scrum Team, events, artifacts and Done
- Developing people and teams — self-managing teams, facilitation, leadership styles, coaching and mentoring
- Managing products with agility — Product Backlog management, stakeholders and customers
- Developing and delivering products professionally — including managing technical risk
- Evolving the agile organization — organisational design and culture

PSM 2 certification training: the Professional Scrum Master – Advanced course
Scrum.org’s official PSM 2 certification training is the Professional Scrum Master – Advanced course. Scrum.org describes it as a two-day advanced Scrum Master class intended for Scrum Masters with at least one year of experience. In person it usually runs on two consecutive days; as a live virtual class it may be split into more, shorter days.
The course includes a password for the PSM II assessment. If you attempt it within 14 days of receiving the password and score below 85%, Scrum.org grants a second attempt at no additional cost. Course participants also get a 40% discount on the PSM III assessment.
Training is not required. Scrum.org states that it is not mandatory to take a class before an assessment, but for PSM II it calls attending a course strongly recommended. The course objectives map closely to the focus areas: servant leadership, coaching Developers and Product Owners, handling conflict, removing impediments and working with middle management.

How to study and prep for PSM II
Start with the Scrum Guide, but do not stop there. Scrum.org says plainly that reading the Scrum Guide alone is not enough to pass a Professional Scrum assessment. PSM II questions assume you can apply the framework in messy situations, so your study time is better spent on the five focus areas than on memorising definitions.
Scrum.org’s Open Assessments are free practice assessments and good for checking your Scrum fundamentals, but Scrum.org itself calls them study tools that are easier than the professional-level assessments. They will not show you the depth of the PSM II questions.
A practical prep plan: reread the Scrum Guide with the Scrum Values in mind; work through each focus area and write down how you have handled it in your own team; then practise with scenario questions under time pressure, three minutes per question, before you use your password.

PSM II practice tests and exam dumps
Look for practice questions that are scenario-based and explain why each option is right or wrong. A list of answers to memorise does not prepare you for an assessment that gives partial credit and expects judgement.
Collections that claim to contain the real questions are a different matter. Scrum.org’s Standard of Conduct says you will not share any of the assessment materials, including your answers, with anyone, and will not prepare answers ahead of time. Failure to meet these standards may result in your Scrum.org certifications being revoked and your account disabled. Using a PSM II dump puts not only this certification but also PSM I and any other Scrum.org credential you hold at risk.

PSM I vs PSM II
PSM I has 80 questions in 60 minutes and costs US$200 per attempt; PSM II has 30 questions in 90 minutes and costs US$250. Both need 85% to pass, and both are lifetime certifications.
The real difference is the level. PSM I checks that you know Scrum as the Scrum Guide describes it. PSM II checks whether you can apply it as an experienced Scrum Master, including coaching, facilitation and product management. If your PSM I score was comfortable but you have little hands-on Scrum Master experience, gain that experience before you spend US$250 on PSM II.

Is the PSM 2 certification worth it?
Scrum.org does not publish salary figures for PSM II, so any salary number you see quoted does not come from the certification body. What Scrum.org does offer is a credential that never expires and costs no renewal fee — the US$250 attempt is the only mandatory cost.
Whether it is worth it depends on where you are. For a Scrum Master with a year or more of experience, PSM II is the next step after PSM I on Scrum.org’s Scrum Master path, below PSM III. For someone new to the role, PSM I and real team experience come first.
