What is the SAFe DevOps certification?
SAFe DevOps is the Scaled Agile Framework’s course and certification on DevOps inside SAFe. Passing the exam makes you a SAFe DevOps Practitioner, abbreviated SDP. The focus is the continuous delivery pipeline: how work flows from idea to release, where it gets stuck, and how a value stream improves it.
Scaled Agile aims it at team members across the value stream who build, test, release or support software-driven products. The roles it names include software engineers, development managers, release managers, QA leads, infrastructure architects, Scrum Masters and Product Owners.
The current exam is the SAFe 6.0 version. Scaled Agile has released “AI-Empowered” editions of several other SAFe exams, but its study-guide collection lists only the 6.0 guide for DevOps.

The SAFe DevOps training course
The certification is tied to a course. SAFe DevOps is a two-day, instructor-led course, offered remotely or in person, and your exam access is included in the course registration.
Scaled Agile lists four main topics: the CALMR DevOps approach (culture, automation, lean flow, measurement and recovery), value stream mapping, continuous exploration and integration, and creating a transformation plan. The learning goals are practical: map a value stream, measure flow and find bottlenecks, connect continuous exploration, integration and deployment securely, and leave with an actionable DevOps transformation plan.
The stated prerequisite is familiarity with engineering and systems architecture infrastructure. Scaled Agile does not publish a single course price on its SAFe DevOps certification or course page.

SAFe DevOps exam format
The SDP exam has 45 multiple-choice, single-select questions and a 90-minute time limit — two minutes per question. It is web-based, closed book and taken without outside assistance, and you have to review and accept the Candidate Agreement before it starts.
Scaled Agile’s exam rules state that candidates, instructors and others cannot give, seek or receive unauthorised assistance during an exam. The exam comes with a coaching report.

SAFe DevOps passing score
You need 73% to pass the SAFe DevOps exam, according to Scaled Agile’s SDP (6.0) study guide. On 45 questions that means 33 correct answers clears the bar, while 32 does not.
That leaves room for about a dozen mistakes, but not much more. Continuous exploration alone is a quarter of the exam, so a weak spot there can decide the result.

What is on the SAFe DevOps exam?
The study guide splits the exam into six domains with weighting ranges. Continuous exploration is the largest at 25–27%; the rest are fairly even. The domains follow the continuous delivery pipeline in order, from understanding DevOps and mapping the value stream through exploration, integration and deployment to releasing on demand.
- Introducing DevOps — 13–15%
- Value Stream Mapping — 15–17%
- Continuous Exploration — 25–27%
- Continuous Integration — 15–17%
- Continuous Deployment — 15–17%
- Release on Demand — 11–13%

SAFe DevOps exam attempts and retakes
The first two attempts are included in your course registration fee when you take them within 60 days of completing the course. Scaled Agile no longer offers exam extensions, so if the window lapses you have to buy a retake.
Each further retake costs US$50. The third attempt is available immediately after a second fail, the fourth 10 days after that, the fifth 30 days later, and every further attempt requires a 30-day wait.

How long is the SAFe DevOps certification valid?
Scaled Agile describes the SDP certification as renewed yearly. SDP belongs to the SAFe Foundational renewal tier, which costs US$195 a year plus applicable tax and also renews SA, SP, SSM, SA-GOV, POPM and SAFe for Hardware certifications.
Keeping the certification active also keeps your access to the course workbook, online learning platform and selected workshops. Scaled Agile also notes that certified professionals can claim PMI PDUs and Scrum Alliance SEUs, without stating a number.

SAFe DevOps study materials and practice test
Your course registration includes perpetual access to the course workbook and the online learning platform, plus an unlimited-attempt practice test with question-level feedback and a coaching report. That official practice test is the closest match to the real exam, so use it until your weakest domain is no longer weak.
The SDP (6.0) study guide is the reference for the exam rules and the domain weighting. Study from the course material for each domain in proportion to its share of the exam.

SAFe DevOps vs SAFe Practitioner
Both are SAFe certifications for people on agile teams, and both renew under the Foundational tier. SAFe Practitioner (SP) is labelled Foundational and aimed at people new to SAFe; it covers applying Lean-Agile principles, planning and executing iterations, and coordinating across an Agile Release Train. SAFe DevOps narrows in on the delivery pipeline: value stream mapping, continuous exploration, integration and deployment, and release on demand.
If you are an engineer, release manager or infrastructure architect who already knows how SAFe teams plan, SAFe DevOps is the more technical of the two.
