What is the SAFe Lean Portfolio Management certification?
Lean Portfolio Management (LPM) is the portfolio level of the Scaled Agile Framework: how an organisation connects strategy to execution, sets up investment funding, manages portfolio flow and governs a portfolio of epics. The SAFe Lean Portfolio Management certification — formally the SAFe Lean Portfolio Manager (LPM) — is Scaled Agile’s credential for the people who run those functions.
Scaled Agile classifies the course as advanced level and expects participants to be familiar with Agile at scale. The course’s stated learning goals are aligning strategy with execution, lean budgeting and portfolio flow, running agile portfolio operations, and designing a plan for LPM adoption.

SAFe Lean Portfolio Management course
The SAFe LPM certification starts with the course: the SAFe Lean Portfolio Management course is two days of remote or in-person training, and it gives you access to the exam afterwards through your learning plan. You also get perpetual access to the course workbook and the online learning platform, plus an unlimited-attempt practice test.
Scaled Agile’s course page shows no single course price. What it does publish is that the first exam attempt is included in your course registration fee, as long as you take it within 60 days of completing the course.

SAFe LPM exam format and passing score
The LPM (6.0) exam is web-based, closed book and taken without outside assistance. It has 45 multiple-choice, single-select questions, the time limit is 90 minutes, and the passing score is 77% — about 35 correct answers. Unanswered questions are marked as incorrect, so always pick an option.
Two minutes per question leaves time to read carefully, but with 77% required you can afford only about ten wrong answers. Scaled Agile notes that exam details are subject to change at any time, so check the study guide before you sit it.

What is on the SAFe LPM exam? The seven domains
Scaled Agile publishes the exam domains with weight ranges. Investment funding and portfolio flow are the heaviest at 16–18% each; lean governance is the lightest.

- Establishing Portfolio Strategy and Vision — 14–16%
- Realizing Portfolio Vision Through Epics — 12–14%

SAFe LPM exam questions: the official practice test
The most reliable source of SAFe LPM exam questions is Scaled Agile’s own practice test, included with the course. Scaled Agile says it reflects the same number of questions, level of difficulty, timebox and domain areas as the real exam, and you can take it as often as you like. It also warns that passing the practice test does not guarantee passing the exam.
Use it as a diagnostic, not a memory exercise. Take it once early to see where you stand, note which domains cost you points, then retake it after targeted study. If you can pass it comfortably without recognising the questions, you are close to ready.

SAFe LPM exam questions and answers online
Lists of SAFe LPM exam questions and answers that claim to be from the real exam break Scaled Agile’s rules. The Candidate Agreement says you must not reproduce, use or disclose any exam content and must not seek or use materials containing actual exam questions or answers. Scaled Agile reserves the right to revoke your certification for violations.
Beyond the rule, such lists are a poor bet for a 77% pass mark: if you only know an answer letter, a reworded question defeats you. Practice questions that explain why each option is right or wrong prepare you for the reasoning the exam actually tests.

Retakes
If you fail, a retake costs US$50. The first retake is available immediately, the second 10 days after the first retake, the third 30 days after the second, and any further retake requires a 30-day wait between attempts.

Renewing the SAFe LPM certification
Scaled Agile certifications are renewed yearly. LPM sits in Scaled Agile’s Advanced tier, whose renewal fee is US$295 per year plus applicable tax, and LPM holders need 24 continuing education units (CEUs) for renewal. If you hold several SAFe certifications, CEU activities count towards all of them.
