What is the Salesforce Certified Platform Developer II?
Salesforce describes Certified Platform Developer II (PDII) holders as experts in the advanced programmatic capabilities of the Lightning Platform and in using data modelling to develop complex business logic and interfaces. It is the step above the Salesforce Certified Platform Developer credential.
The exam guide pictures the candidate as someone who builds custom applications and applies data modelling, user interface, coding, testing, security, sharing and deployment practices — including Lightning Web Components, Aura components, Visualforce, Apex web services, asynchronous Apex and error handling.
Salesforce recommends two to four years as a developer, with at least one year of designing, implementing and deploying on the Lightning Platform. That is a recommendation, not a gate; the formal gate is the prerequisite certification.

Salesforce Platform Developer 2 certification prerequisites
To earn the Salesforce Platform Developer 2 certification you must first hold the Salesforce Certified Platform Developer certification. Salesforce’s exam guide and the PDII credential page both list it as the prerequisite.
Note the name: what many developers still call “Platform Developer I” appears on Trailhead today as Salesforce Certified Platform Developer, without the numeral. It is the same rung of the ladder. For most developers it is the natural order anyway — the next Salesforce certification, Platform Developer 2, assumes everything the first one tests and builds on it.

Salesforce Certified Platform Developer 2 exam format and cost
The Salesforce Certified Platform Developer 2 exam has 60 multiple-choice questions plus up to five unscored questions placed at random. You get 120 minutes and need 70% to pass — 42 of the 60 scored questions. The current exam guide states that the questions align to the Winter ’24 release.
It is a proctored exam, onsite at a testing center or in an online environment. No hard-copy or online materials may be referenced, so you cannot look up Apex syntax or governor limits during the test.
The registration fee is US$200 (JPY 30,000) and a retake costs US$100 (JPY 15,000), both plus applicable taxes. The exam is multiple-choice only; the superbadges in the exam guide are recommended for study, not part of the exam.
- Questions: 60 scored, plus up to 5 unscored
- Time: 120 minutes
- Passing score: 70%
- Registration: US$200; retake: US$100

What is on the PDII exam?
Salesforce publishes five sections with weightings. Process automation, logic and integration is the largest at 27%; user interface and testing, debugging and deployment follow with 20% each.
- Process Automation, Logic, and Integration — 27%
- User Interface — 20%
- Testing, Debugging, and Deployment — 20%
- Performance — 18%
- Advanced Developer Fundamentals — 15%

How to study for Platform Developer 2 certification
Salesforce recommends hands-on experience plus self-study. For the self-study part, the exam guide points to three Trailhead superbadge resources: the Apex Callouts Superbadge Unit, the Platform API Superbadge Unit and Apex Specialist. They are practical — you build and debug real code — which suits an exam built around integration, asynchronous processing and testing.
Weight your study the way Salesforce weights the exam. Integration and asynchronous logic at 27% deserve the most time; performance at 18% is easy to underestimate if your projects have never run into platform limits, so give it its own study block rather than treating it as a footnote.
Before you book, practise with timed questions: 60 questions in 120 minutes gives you two minutes each, and without reference materials every Apex detail has to come from memory and experience.

Platform Developer II practice questions and exam dumps
Good practice questions for PDII show code, ask what it does or how to fix it, and explain why each wrong option fails. That is closer to the real exam than a list of answers.
Exam dumps are another matter. Salesforce’s Credentialing and Certification Program Agreement prohibits sharing, using or selling exam content in any format, including content you memorise, and Salesforce reminded candidates in July 2025 that they agree not to distribute, use or request exam dumps. Sanctions include revocation of earned certifications and suspension from all certification exams for 90 days or more.

How do you maintain Salesforce Certified Platform Developer II?

Each badge has its own completion deadline on Trailhead, so put the date in your calendar as soon as a new one is published.

Is Salesforce Certified Platform Developer II worth it? Salary
Salesforce does not publish salary figures for Platform Developer II, so we do not quote one. The certification’s value is what it certifies: that you can handle the advanced programmatic side of the platform — integrations, asynchronous Apex, performance and deployment — not just the fundamentals.
The cost is modest by certification standards: US$200 to register, US$100 per retake and an annual maintenance badge. The real investment is the experience Salesforce recommends, two to four years as a developer.
