What is the SAP FICO certification in S/4HANA Cloud?
“SAP FICO” is the long-standing shorthand for SAP’s Financial Accounting (FI) and Controlling (CO) components. Many people searching for an SAP FICO certification want proof that they can configure the finance side of SAP. For the cloud ERP, SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition, the certification on the Financial Accounting side is C_S4CFI.
Its full title is SAP Certified - Implementation Consultant - SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition, Financial Accounting. As the name says, it is aimed at consultants who implement the system. The skills SAP attaches to it are financial accounting, record-to-report, accounts payable processing, accounts receivable management, system implementation, project implementation, system configuration, data migration and scope management. Controlling is not among them, so this is an SAP S/4HANA Financial Accounting certification rather than a combined FI and CO credential.

C_S4CFI exam format: a system-based assessment
The C_S4CFI exam is not a multiple-choice test. SAP lists it as one activity, a system-based assessment: you carry out tasks in a live SAP system within 3 hours. SAP publishes neither the number of tasks nor how they are weighted.
SAP’s help center files these exams under unproctored SAP Certification practical exams. Before you start, SAP asks you to check your hardware, software and connection against its Technical Readiness Checklist, to have a valid SAP Universal ID with a secondary email address, and to work with the practice system in the learning journey so the exam environment is not new to you.
The exam is available in English only. Until 29 October 2026, it also includes a beta of SAP Joule for Consultants, which SAP describes as free and accessible as an additional open-book resource during the exam. After that date the beta ends; check the certification page for what applies when you book.

SAP FICO certification cost
SAP does not print a price on the C_S4CFI certification page. It states that you need an SAP Learning Hub subscription that includes SAP Certification exam attempts.
SAP lists the SAP Learning Hub at US$1,452 per user per year. That subscription includes four SAP Certification exam attempts per year to get and stay certified, plus the learning content and the assessments that keep a certification valid. SAP’s Learning Hub FAQ adds that individuals can also buy one or six exam attempts without a subscription; it does not give those prices on that page, so check SAP’s shop for the current figure before you budget.
The subscription also matters after you pass. Without it you cannot take the short stay-certified assessment, so keeping the certification would mean buying and retaking the full exam each year.

C_S4CFI passing score
SAP states a 61% pass score for C_S4CFI. Because the exam is a system-based assessment, that score is earned by completing tasks correctly in the system, not by picking answers. SAP offers score reports for certifications with a system-based assessment, which you can view and download under My Learnings > My Certifications.
A 61% threshold does not mean you can ignore a third of the content. SAP does not publish which tasks carry which share of the score, so plan to be able to configure and post across all of the listed areas.

SAP does not publish a weighted topic list for C_S4CFI. What it does publish is the set of skills the certification covers and the learning journey it recommends, Implementing Financial Accounting in SAP S/4HANA Cloud. Treat that learning journey as the scope.

SAP FICO certification training and courses
SAP’s recommended preparation is its own learning journey, Implementing Financial Accounting in SAP S/4HANA Cloud, on SAP Learning. It is linked from the certification page and comes with the practice system SAP points you to before the exam. Because the assessment is hands-on, time in that practice system counts for more than reading.
If you want an instructor-led SAP FICO certification course instead, start with SAP’s own training catalogue. Whatever you choose, check that it is built for SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition and maps to the skills listed on the C_S4CFI page; a course aimed at a different SAP edition or an older system is not the scope SAP names for this exam.
SAP FICO certification training is only useful here if it gets you working in the system. The exam is a timed, hands-on assessment, so being able to find and complete a configuration or posting task quickly matters as much as knowing the theory behind it.

SAP lists no formal prerequisites on the C_S4CFI certification page: no required course, no minimum experience. The practical requirements are technical and administrative — a Learning Hub subscription with exam attempts, a valid SAP Universal ID with a secondary email address, and a setup that passes SAP’s Technical Readiness Checklist.
In practice, the title says who it is for. It is an implementation consultant certification, and the exam asks you to configure and run financial accounting processes in a live system. Hands-on familiarity with the system is what the format rewards.

How long is the C_S4CFI certification valid?
SAP certifications from practical exams are time-limited. SAP’s help center states that the digital badge you earn remains valid for 12 months, and you then have a 12-month window to complete the assessments needed to stay certified.
Staying certified means passing a short stay-certified assessment, which SAP says extends the validity of your certification by 12 months. That assessment requires an SAP Learning Hub subscription. Without one, SAP’s route is to purchase and retake an SAP Certification exam every year.
