What is the SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central certification?
It is SAP’s associate credential for people who configure SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central. SAP’s current exam carries the code C_THR81 and the title SAP Certified - SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central Core and Position Management, so the certification now covers both Employee Central Core and Position Management.
SAP recommends it as an entry-level qualification that lets consultants get acquainted with the fundamentals of the solution. It validates that you can perform the core configuration work: foundation objects, employee data, self-service and workflows, business rules and permissions.
One thing to know up front: SAP states that only registered SAP partner consultants are given provisioning rights once certified. Customers and independent consultants can earn the certification, but it does not by itself grant instance provisioning access.

SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central exam format and pass score
The C_THR81 exam is a system-based assessment lasting three hours, and the pass score is 59%. It is offered in English.
SAP does not publish the number of questions for this exam on the certification page, so this page quotes none. The exam is a system-based assessment rather than a simple multiple-choice test, which is why SAP points candidates to a technical readiness checklist and to an introduction to system-based assessments before exam day.
SAP does not publish a topic-by-topic percentage breakdown for this exam either. The reliable guide to scope is the recommended learning journey and the THR81 academy units, described below.

How much does the SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central certification cost?
SAP does not sell this exam as a standalone price on the certification page. Instead you need a subscription that includes SAP Certification exam attempts, and you schedule the exam through SAP’s Certification Hub.
SAP Training lists the exam subscriptions: CER001 gives one attempt and 12 months of Certification Hub access for US$236, and CER006 gives six attempts over 12 months for US$578, capped at three attempts per individual exam. Both are valid for all available exams in the Certification Hub, not only this one.
The THR81 training academy is a separate purchase and SAP does not list its price on the course page, so budget for training on top of the exam subscription if you plan to take the full course.

What do you need before the exam? Access and prerequisites
To sit the exam you need a Learning Hub subscription that includes SAP Certification exam attempts and a valid SAP Universal ID with a secondary email set up.
SAP lists no formal certification prerequisite, but the recommended training path, the THR81 academy, does: SAP marks THR80, the SAP SuccessFactors Platform Introduction Academy, as an essential prerequisite for that course. So while you can register for the exam without another certification, the standard route into it runs through the platform introduction first.

SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central training and study resources
The official study route is SAP’s own learning journey plus the THR81 academy, which combines self-guided learning, scheduled check-in meetings and hands-on exercises. SAP describes the academy as a full-day commitment across its duration for virtual-live-classroom participants.
SAP also runs Get Certified live sessions: a kick-off that walks through the exam format and interface, followed by content-review sessions that go unit by unit through Employee Central and Position Management before the exam. Combined with the practice system in the learning journey, that is the SAP-provided way to prepare — this page points to no third-party courses.
