ServiceNow Certified Application Developer (CAD) is ServiceNow’s certification for building applications on the ServiceNow platform: data models, user interfaces, security, process automation and data integration. You earn it by passing a proctored exam, online or onsite, registered through ServiceNow University. ServiceNow keeps the current blueprint inside ServiceNow University for enrolled learners and publishes no price or passing score on its open pages.

What is the ServiceNow Certified Application Developer certification?
The ServiceNow Certified Application Developer certification — CAD for short — confirms that you can design, develop and deploy applications on the ServiceNow platform. ServiceNow names five skill areas: data models, user interfaces, security, process automation and data integration.
It belongs to what ServiceNow calls its high-stakes certifications: proctored exams that validate your ability to apply key ServiceNow knowledge and skills for products or roles. That separates it from ServiceNow’s micro-credentials, which are short, unproctored assessments. When you pass, you receive the CAD certification and a Credly digital badge.
The ServiceNow application developer certification is aimed at people who build on the platform rather than only configure it: scoped applications, tables and data models, forms and client and server scripts, access controls, automation and integrations.

ServiceNow CAD certification and the new “AI Developer” label
When we checked, ServiceNow University showed the CAD certification inside pages titled “AI Developer”, and the same page’s title also reads “ServiceNow Certified Application Developer (CAD)”. ServiceNow’s overview page lists an “AI Application Developer” career journey.
ServiceNow does not explain on those pages whether the certification has been renamed or whether this is a new track around it. The registration page still names the Certified Application Developer exam. Before you book, check the exact exam name in your ServiceNow University account.

ServiceNow Certified Application Developer (CAD) exam format
ServiceNow states that the ServiceNow Certified Application Developer (CAD) exam is an online or onsite proctored exam, and that you have to pass it to earn the certification.
The current exam blueprint — with question count, duration and topic weighting — sits in the CAD learning path on ServiceNow University and is available only to enrolled learners. The only openly published specification is an older ServiceNow document from 2016. It listed 60 questions in 90 minutes, in three formats: multiple choice, multiple select (“select all that apply”) and true or false, with a pass or fail message shown immediately after the exam.
Use those 2016 figures as background, not as the current specification. The blueprint in your ServiceNow University account is the document that counts.

ServiceNow CAD exam passing score
ServiceNow does not publish a passing score for the CAD exam on its open pages. Its published specification says only that results are calculated immediately and a pass or fail message is displayed.
With no number to aim for, prepare so that every skill area is solid. Practise multiple-select questions in particular, where you have to recognise every correct option, not just one.

What is on the ServiceNow CAD exam?
ServiceNow describes the certification by five skill areas. The short descriptions below are ours; the detailed objectives are in the current blueprint.

ServiceNow CAD exam voucher, cost and registration
You register for the CAD exam through ServiceNow University, on the “Register and Complete the CAD Exam” page linked from the certification. ServiceNow does not publish the exam voucher price on its open certification pages, and the Credentialing Program Guide that covers vouchers, retakes and maintenance could not be read publicly when we checked.
So the binding price is the one ServiceNow University shows you during registration. If you work for a ServiceNow customer or partner, ask whether your employer covers the voucher before you pay yourself.

Prerequisites and recommended experience
ServiceNow’s open pages list no formal prerequisite for CAD. The 2016 specification said the exam had no specific prerequisites but that being a Certified ServiceNow System Administrator helps, recommended scripting training, and suggested at least six months of hands-on experience developing applications in ServiceNow.
That advice still makes sense as a benchmark: CAD assumes you know the platform as an administrator and can script on both the client and the server side. Check the learning path in ServiceNow University for the course that is currently recommended or required before the exam.

ServiceNow CAD course and exam prep
The official route starts in ServiceNow University, which offers free training and a Certified Application Developer learning path containing the exam blueprint for enrolled learners. Enrol there first: the blueprint is the most reliable map of what the exam tests.
A practical prep plan: build a small scoped application end to end in a personal developer instance — tables, forms, client and server scripts, access controls, an automated process and an import or integration. Every skill area on the certification shows up in that one project, and building it exposes gaps faster than reading.
Then test yourself under time pressure and review every wrong answer until you can explain why each option is right or wrong.

ServiceNow CAD exam questions, practice exams and dumps
A good ServiceNow CAD practice exam does more than repeat facts. It mixes single-answer, multiple-select and true-or-false items, covers all five skill areas, and explains every option, so you learn why a choice is wrong and not only which one is right.
ServiceNow CAD exam questions passed around as copies of the real exam are not a reliable way to prepare. You cannot tell whether they match the current exam version, and memorised answers do not help with a scenario you have not seen. ServiceNow’s own rules on exam content are in its Credentialing Program Guide on ServiceNow University; read them before you rely on any third-party question set.
