ServiceNow Certified Technical Architect (CTA): program, exam and requirements
ServiceNow’s Certified Technical Architect (CTA) is an expert-level designation earned through a 12-week program that ends in a capstone review, where you design, present and defend an architecture. You need at least three years of ServiceNow subject matter expertise. The previous CTA exam retired on 3 May 2026; a beta of its successor ran from 4 May to 21 June 2026, with later dates announced as to be determined.

What is the ServiceNow Certified Technical Architect certification?
The ServiceNow Certified Technical Architect, or CTA, is one of two expert-level certifications ServiceNow lists, alongside the Certified Master Architect. ServiceNow calls its expert certifications the highest level it offers and the gateway to being recognised as a leader in the ServiceNow field.
ServiceNow describes the technical architect role as analysing and translating business information and technical requirements into architectural blueprints. Architects also guide technical governance, help design a platform operating model, and weigh strategic and operational demands against the platform architecture and leading practices.
The CTA cert is not just an exam you book. It is a cohort programme with a design review at the end.

ServiceNow CTA exam status in 2026
ServiceNow University’s CTA exam page is now titled “Certified Technical Architect (CTA) Retired”. Its notice states that this Certified Technical Architect exam would retire on 3 May 2026, and that all attempts at it had to be completed on or before that date.
According to the same notice, exam attempts after 3 May 2026 are either for a beta exam that ran from 4 May to 21 June 2026, or for the exam after the beta, with dates to be determined. ServiceNow’s public pages checked for this article do not state whether that successor exam is now open for regular booking.
If you are planning a CTA exam now, check the “Register for Exam” link on the ServiceNow University CTA page and your ServiceNow University account for the current exam and dates before you schedule study time around a deadline.

ServiceNow CTA requirements
ServiceNow’s stated requirement is experience: candidates must have at least three years of ServiceNow subject matter expertise, and experience taking business requirements and converting them into ServiceNow platform capabilities.
That second requirement is the important one. The CTA programme and its capstone are about translating a business scenario into a platform architecture and defending your choices, which is hard to fake without years of real implementations behind you.
ServiceNow’s public CTA pages do not list specific prerequisite certifications. Enrolment runs through ServiceNow’s Expert Programs site; ServiceNow’s enrolment article states that registration for the CTA program entails a one-week window.

How the CTA program works
ServiceNow awards the CTA designation to people who take part in its 12-week programme. Over those weeks you complete self-paced learning modules, work through case studies with your cohort, and attend weekly live sessions.
The programme ends with a capstone review. You are given a scenario and a project persona, and you design, present and defend an architecture for it. Satisfactorily completing that review is a condition of earning the designation.
Because the review is a defended design rather than a set of multiple-choice items, preparation looks different from other ServiceNow exams: practise explaining why you chose a design, which alternatives you rejected, and how it fits governance and the platform operating model.

How much does the ServiceNow CTA cost?
ServiceNow publishes the CTA programme cost and payment procedure in a ServiceNow University knowledge article titled “Certified Technical Architect (CTA) Program Cost & Payments”. That article could not be read on the public web for this page, so we do not quote a figure.
Treat any CTA price you see outside ServiceNow’s own pages with caution and confirm the amount, what it includes, and how the exam is billed directly in ServiceNow University before you commit.

ServiceNow CTA exam format and passing score
ServiceNow publishes a CTA Exam Blueprint that defines the exam’s domains, weightings and objectives, and it recommends reviewing it carefully before the exam. The blueprint is a ServiceNow University knowledge article that could not be read on the public web for this page.
For that reason this page states no number of questions, time limit, passing score or domain weighting for the CTA exam. With the previous exam retired in May 2026, numbers published for the retired version would not reliably describe the current one in any case.

CTA vs Certified Master Architect
ServiceNow lists two expert certifications: the Certified Technical Architect and the Certified Master Architect. ServiceNow describes these expert certifications as the highest level it offers.
If you are choosing where to start at expert level, the CTA is defined around technical architecture on the platform: blueprints, governance and the platform operating model. Check the Master Architect programme page in ServiceNow University for its own requirements before deciding.

ServiceNow CTA exam dumps
There is no reliable shortcut to a CTA. The designation depends on a capstone review where you defend your own design live, so memorised answers do not help there, and anything sold as a dump for the CTA exam would most likely describe the version ServiceNow retired in May 2026.
ServiceNow’s public pages checked for this article do not spell out a dump-specific rule for the CTA, so we make no claim about sanctions here. Prepare from the official blueprint and the programme materials.
ServiceNow CTA salary and career value
ServiceNow does not publish salary figures for CTA holders, and this page does not repeat third-party salary claims.
What ServiceNow does say is that its expert certifications are the gateway to being recognised as a leader in the ServiceNow field. The programme’s requirement of three years’ subject matter expertise also means the credential signals experience, not just exam preparation.
